Penny Power Day

October 17, 2024

This year, we have the special privilege of honoring a brave 5th grader named Penny Wood, who was diagnosed with leukemia in 2023 and is still undergoing treatment. Her courage inspires us all and reminds us why we walk: to bring hope, awareness, and support to those fighting cancer.

Join us, become a part of Hauppauge Heroes, and help make a difference in the lives of those affected by cancer. Together, we can light the night!

About Penny

About Penny Wood

For Penny Power Day, our inspiration and drive come from the incredible strength and courage of Penny Wood, a remarkable fifth grader from Kings Park. Penny's battle with acute lymphoblastic leukemia has not only shaped her life but also ignited a unifying movement within our community.

Penny's Journey

Penny was diagnosed with leukemia in April of 2023, a moment that profoundly changed her world and her family's. Penny has shown amazing strength, courage, and resilience during her treatment.  She is polite, funny and inspiring as she deals with a ups and downs of treatment.  Overall, Penny is doing well and despite having some set-backs last year, Penny recently returned to school and dancing. The Wood family is looking forward to Penny’s expected treatment end date of June 2025.

Our Mission

Our mission is to unite Kings Park behind this noble cause, creating a community that supports those facing similar struggles. We aim to bring people together to not only raise awareness but also contribute to cancer research.

Join Us

We invite you to be a vital part of our mission by participating in two incredible events:

Penny Power Day – October 17th:

Show your support by purchasing a Penny Power shirt for $20. Wear it on this special day dedicated to honoring those in our community who are fighting or have lost the battle to cancer. Together, we'll stand united, remembering and acknowledging the courage of individuals like Penny.

Light the Night Walk – October 19th:

Join us, along with other Kings Park families, as we walk with thousands of Long Islanders, wearing our Penny Power shirts to honor and remember our loved ones. Represent our fight against cancer and demonstrate our collective strength.
